“To bring about change, you must not be afraid to take the first step. We will fail when we fail to try”
--Rosa Parks
After the murder of George Floyd on Monday June 7, 2020, 17-year-old Machi Perrin could not sit on the sidelines and do nothing while America watched yet another black man’s life taken because of the color of his skin. Machi knew that racial injustices were still running rampant in our world. Although he did not have all of the answers, he knew that he could become the beginning of change in his community. Machi understood that he needed to be the change he hopes to see. Since racial tensions are still prevalent in our society, failure was not an option.
Machi took it upon himself to contact his local Mayor’s Office and the Antioch Police Department. From there, he launched a peaceful protest where hundreds of demonstrators participated.
On that special day in June 2020, Machi alongside his family and friends took to the streets in Antioch for a peaceful demonstration. Several hundreds of other people joined the event, many marching with signs and their little ones at their sides. To Machi's surprise, many participants asked what the next step was after their successful peaceful protest. The participants wanted to get involved and help positively impact their community on a large scale. With such a receptive response, Machi and his family knew they needed to continue the work. On June 7, 2020, BRIDGE was born.
In May of 2021, Building Relationships In Different Generations Everyday (BRIDGE) became a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
